Website Makeovers

"Ring the bells that still can ring,
Forget your perfect offering.
There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in."
Leonard Cohen: Strange Music
Makeovers occur for a variety of reasons. View these real-life situations and solutions:
Adding Sections   Top

Reworking the Menu Bar to accommodate new sections resulted in an overall redesign of the Alzheimer Society of Calgary website.

Now viewers navigate from a top menu with each Title a rollover giving a brief description of that Section. Future new sections can easily be added. The colour scheme is reversed and font enlarged for improved readibility.

Increase Functionality   Top

Bill and Brenda Turk wanted to simplify shopping from their Sports Shooting products website Red Star Target by reducing "the number of clicks" and consolidating the catalogue, price list, and shopping cart.

Wholesalers had to click on Products then move through several screens selecting "Canada or US", "Wholesale or Retail", then give a password, then enter the price list. The catalogue, with product photos and descriptions, was a separate section.

With a database built by ScrimTech Consulting we were able to reduce the sections from 6 to 3, and allow the shopper to make his selections from one page. The revised catalogue now has product photo, description, price in US Retail, US Wholesale, or Canadian Wholesale, and shopping cart with add, view, revise, and checkout functions all on the same page.

Modernize   Top

After 4 years online the Active Healthcare Products site needed updating to a modern look and more accessible navigation.

This screenshot at a 1280 x 960 resolution is of pages aligned to fit an 800 x 600 screen. The frameset was eliminated and direct links to every page added. A more vibrant colour-scheme, web-safe font, and hyperlinks to manufacturers and industry associations make the site more accessible and dynamic.

Growth   Top

The content of the H. Michael Wise Asset Management site outgrew the original architecture. Updating was time-consuming and unwieldy.

Reformatting brought the site up-to-date and simplified navigation.

Original Designer No Longer Available   Top

Sometimes very little change is needed or wanted. Sandra Haswell had new sections, photos, and text to add to her website but the original designer was no longer available. Working with Go2Guy we formatted the HTML code for simpler, quicker updating and made the colour-scheme uniform.

New Look   Top

The original Dezynetek site was a blast to create. Using the metaphor of building/construction the site opened with a splash animation of cartoon workmen hammering, sawing and studying blueprints. The colourful houses that comprised the menubar opened their doors on a rollover.

It was fun and it was effective but now that several years have passed it's time for something new.

Same Name, New Purpose   Top

This personal website was always out-of-date: too many other projects on the go!. The re-design is a place to house those projects.

Content from the original site was dispersed to other sites and the new site is for "in-progress" work.
